CHICAGO ALTERNATIVE POLICING STRATEGY (CAPS)
The partnership between police and community is the foundation of Chicago's own philosophy of community policing, known as CAPS -- the Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy.
With CAPS, police officers continue to enforce the law and respond rapidly to serious crimes and life-threatening emergencies. But CAPS recognizes that the police alone cannot solve the City's crime problems. It takes a combined effort of police, community, and City government working together.
On a daily basis, Alderman Chandler’s Office processes service requests through various city agencies for Graffiti, abandoned vehicles, abandoned buildings, malfunctioning street lights, and other signs of neighborhood disorder. He knows that all of these things can affect the level of crime in the 24th Ward. Alderman Chandler wants more residents to get involved with CAPS, because they can provide more “eyes and ears” to help report more of these service requests.
The 24th Ward encompasses three Police Districts: 10th District, 11th District and 15th District.
